Pistons bounce back against Sixers, but recurring letdowns remain big issue By Chris Sheridan AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The back-and-forth between Maurice Cheeks and the hecklers behind the Philly bench had been going on all evening, with Cheeks staying as engaged as any coach we've seen since M.L. Carr was paying more attention to the fans than to his own Celtics back in the mid-'90s. Read Full Story

MANNY LIGHTENS UP THE LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION By Epifanio M. Almeda,PhilBoxing.com,Fri, 18 Apr 2008 I was about to submit this article weeks ago when I read another’s claim in another broadsheet that it is Joel Casamayor who has lightened up the lightweight division when he KO’d Michael Katsidis. While the writer of that article has some reasons to back up his claim, I still hold that it is the Pacman who lightens up the lightweight division. Read Full Story

Extreme Gender Bias: Woman Who Statutorily Raped Boy Avoids Jail, While Boy's Older Brother Goes to Prison for Exact Same Crime by Glenn Sacks I'm opposed to prison sentences for certain statutory rape situations--in many countries, a 21-year-old man having a relationship with a 17-year-old woman is perfectly normal. A friend's grandparents recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary, and it was publicized in local papers, as it should be, since it's such an achievement. But looking at the story and doing a little math made me realize that if the two of them had gotten married yesterday, he would go to jail--he was 21 and she was 17 when they got married in 1922. This is absurd. Read Full Story

WBO Orders Campbell-Casamayor/Barrera Wants Pacquiao & Marquez John Chavez I order Michael Marley to cease from devouring every cupcake he lays his eyes on. I order Ricardo “RiGordo” Lois to slow down his consumption of porterhouse steaks on his lunch break. My orders go unheard being that I’m not in a position to enforce either “order”. I want hundreds of millions of dollars, a Maserati, an unlimited supply of beer, a pet giraffe, a tuba, a boxing advisory group, a new fishing pole, and free pizza for the rest of my life… it doesn’t matter. I don’t deserve the finer things in life and it’s just the way it goes. Read Full Story

The Ides And Ends of Spring Fight Fever By Phil Woolever PLANET BOXING – I agree with Antonio Tarver when he said boxing is “thriving” these days. Long before March Madness roared in and out, the 2008 conking calendar had already filled up with enough duke out drama to stretch respectably into next winter. Since I began compiling semi-quarterly state of the manly arts observational data a few years ago, things have continued to roll on petty well for a wide range of parties in the boxing game. In promotional, performance or personal fan based interests, bang for the buck is up. Read Full Story

Barrera Wants Pacquiao/Marquez Rematches By Mark Vester While many will wonder why, Marco Antonio Barrera is still interested in facing Manny Pacquiao for a third time. Pacquiao owns two wins over Barrera, and neither fight was close. The first meeting in 2003 saw Pacquiao demolish Barrera for a ten-round stoppage. The 2007 rematch went the distance, but Pacquiao won a clear decision with very little resistance along the way. He also wants a return duel with Juan Manuel Marquez, who won a close decision over Barrera last March. Read Full Story
