Arum wants Gorres-Montiel 2!
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum told Fightnews.com and The Manila Bulletin on Monday about his desire to stage a rematch between Filipino Z Gorres and Mexican Fernando Montiel sometime in May if Montiel gets clearance from Goldn Boy Promotions. Gorres and Montiel had fought in February 2007 in Gorres' hometown of Cebu City, Philippines, and ringsiders believe Montiel was lucky to have excaped with the decision. Arum also bared that another Filipino hotshot, super-bantam Bernabe Concepcion, will return to action on April 26. The 76-year-old Harvard-educated lawyer from New York revealed that Concepcion's rugged win over Juan Ruiz over the weekend in Guanajuato, Mexico, showed his inexperience. "Concepcion must learn how to get out of trouble," said Arum, who was angry that the referee was unable to control and handle the bruising bout."The other guy was a lot like a defensive lineman from the New York Giants," said Arum, who was so overwhelmed by the response to the Latin Futy card that he might stage it every month in different cities across Mexico. "This will benefit the Filipinos (who will be given fights in the card)," added Arum. The Latin Futy slugfest was starred by Mexico's beloved Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
