Darchinyan-Gorres rematch for two world titles

Vic Darchinyan and Z Gorres could fight again in late 2008 with the WBO and IBF super-flyweight titles at stake.

Darchinyan’s agent Angelo Hyder said the heavy punching former flyweight king was eager for revenge against Gorres after their February 2 fight in Cebu City ended in a draw.

Furious with the decision, Darchinyan said he did enough to win the verdict and would love the chance to KO Gorres in a rematch.

Hyder, one of the world’s leading agents, said Darchinyan was set to fight IBF champ Dmitri Kirilov in May in Moscow and would love the opportunity to defend the title against Gorres.

With the Filipino poised to box a rematch with WBO champ Fernando Montiel, the possibility is now there that Darchinyan-Gorres 2 will be for both world titles.

Gorres is now 27-2-2, 15 KO, Montiel 35-2-1, 26 KOs.

Their fight 12 months ago ended with Montiel winning a disputed split decision in Cebu City.

Darchinyan (29-1-1, 23 KOs) is very confident of beating Kirilov (29-3, 9 KOs)– rated below both Darchinyan and Gorres on the boxrec lists.

``Vic wants to fight him in Moscow,’’ Hyder said.

``He wants to stop Kirilov in his home country and it would be a huge thing for Vic’s fans in his native Armenia.’’

Kirilov next fights Cecilino Santos in New York on February 28.
