Filipino software maker eyes non-profit for global growth

Gurango Software Corporation, a software firm founded and headed by Filipino IT pioneer Joey Gurango, is targeting the non-profit sector internationally to expand its installed base.

Alistair Gibson, Gurango Software country manager for Australia, said the company has "an impeccable track record" in Australia’s non-profit industry, with customers such as the Queensland Baptist Care (QBC).

Based in Gaythorne, Australia, QBC is a public benevolent organization dedicated to serving a broad cross-section of the community by providing comprehensive and integrated community services. The organization currently employs approximately 1,000 employees posted in multiple locations across Australia.

"Gurango Software implemented Smart HR for QBC in 2005, primarily to address its data management, process integration and reporting requirements. QBC was looking for an integrated HR information management solution that would enable all its facilities to access a centralized database of HR information and would provide flexibility and ease in generating reports.

"Following an exhaustive search of the Australian HRIS market, we chose Smart HR because of its capability to match the functionality of more expensive competitors. Because the system is user-friendly, flexible and easy to use, it has enabled us to get information into the hands of local managers in a cost-effective and timely manner," said QBC HR manager Ian Townsend.

Smart HR has been up and running in QBC for over two years now and, according to Townsend, has proved to be a functionally rich, flexible and scalable solution.

A Microsoft partner, Gurango Software sells licenses and services for software products it develops for the Microsoft platform. The company’s product portfolio includes Smart HR, a human resources information system (HRIS); Forum Management Series, a suite of management applications for training and membership organizations; and DynamicPay, a payroll solution for large multinational companies.

Gurango Software also offers implementation and configuration services Microsoft Dynamics, a suite of enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions.
