IBF Orders Gorres to defend Intercontinental Title before May 12

In an email to ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer, IBF championship chairman Lindsey Tucker Jr. orders reigning IBF Inter-Continental super flyweight champion Z “The Dream” Gorres to defend the crown on or before May 11 this year, six months after he defeated Eric Ortiz on August 11 last year and rule the regional division.

This development came as Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan is set to challenge reigning super flyweight king Dimitri Kirilov of Russia and the Darchinyan and Gorres camps sealed an agreement for a return bout between the “Dream” and the “Raging Bull” after a controversial split draw broke the corners of the recently concluded “Now or Never” eliminator card on February 2 in Cebu City. Gorres must retain his crown before he could challenge Darchinyan in case the latter takes over the title from Kirilov.

Tucker however reserved the possibility of extending the mandatory defense for another 90 days if the cut of Gorres that was caused by an accidentall headbutt during the Darchinyan fight won’t heal and medical advise forbids any fight for another 90 days, or not earlier than May 11.

Aldeguer announced that Gorres is ready to accept the challenge and the defense fight is set by ALA Promotions on May 3 at the Mandaue City Cultural & Sports Complex in Mandaue City. ALA Gym chief trainer Edito “Ala” Villamor said that Gorres remains in good shape and would be back to the mitts and bags next week.
