Marquez going for a KO win
ALL his life, Juan Manuel Marquez had never been in a bad fight.
While there were a few occasions when he looked very pedestrian, it didn’t mean Marquez was not in tip-top shape.
In the very few times that Marquez was on the receiving end of a decision loss, it was because the other fighter had a better technique that night, and not because there was a major flaw with his fighting style nor was he ill trained.
"In the ring, there is no such things as an easy fight or a small challenge and I keep that in mind and base my philosophy on that when I am preparing for a fight," Marquez said from his training camp in Mexico City as he revs up for the March 15 rematch with Filipino Manny Pacquiao.
"If you do not look at boxing that way, with a very serious attitude and dedication to the way a fighter prepares for a fight, there is getting around in boxing and I if you do not prepare as you should, the opportunity passes you by and all the glory with it," the 34-year-old reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) super-featherweight titlist added.
With revenge and the lure of even more fame and fortune awaiting him, Marquez is training like hell for the 29-year-old lefty from General Santos City.
"The fight against Pacquiao is definitely an opportunity for me to seek revenge," said Marquez, who has been aching from the bum decision that he took when he first fought Pacquiao in May 2004.
In that fight, Marquez was down thrice in the first round — and appeared to be one punch away from being declared a knockout loser — when he miraculously regained his wits en route to a 12-round split draw.
Marquez said a win by knockout is his main target when he locks horns anew with Pacquiao at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas so there’ll be no doubt this time.
But if he fails to stop Pacquiao, Marquez said he will do everything to win every round convincingly so the judges won’t have no choice but to award every round to him.
Marquez has been training like a mad man even before Christmas season. Pacquiao checked into the Wild Card Boxing Club for training on Jan. 16.
