NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AFP) — David West scored a playoff career-high 30 points to spark the New Orleans Hornets past San Antonio 101-82 Saturday in the opener of their National Basketball Association playoff series. Serbian sharpshooter Peja Stojakovic added 22 points while playmaker Chris Paul scored 17 points and passed out 13 assists to spark the Hornets as they started the Western Conference best-of-second second round series.

An affable guy who treats people with humility, Gomez is always happy to help. We spoke with Gomez on Tuesday via telephone from Mexico City. Gomez was there as part of a contingent promoting the March 1 trilogy between Mexico City natives and super bantamweight greats Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez at Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. As of Tuesday, Gomez said the deal for a De La Hoya-Steve Forbes fight at Home Depot Center on May 3 was not yet done.
